Soddo Hospital Programming, Ethiopia

Soddo Christian Hospital is located in Soddo, a city of roughly 200,000 people in southwestern Ethiopia, about 200 miles (330km) from Addis Ababa. It is the center of the Wolaitta region, which has about 2.5 million inhabitants, and is one of the most populated and impoverished parts of Ethiopia. The hospital has recently acquired a new 2 acre lot adjoining our existing 11 acre site. EMI is excited to partner with Soddo Christian Hospital to update the Master Plan to include the new site and effectively expand their services to the local community.

Project Scope

Perform a campus-wide programming effort, then a more detailed programming effort for the anticipated new Women and Children’s center facility to be constructed on the recently acquired 2-acre site. Additionally, our team will perform a master plan update integrating the new building and site into the existing campus. We will assess the water, wastewater, electrical and medical gas infrastructure at the hospital and provide recommendations for improvements and expansion to accommodate the new site.  Finally, the team will develop bubble diagrams to illustrate the overall size of the new Women and Children’s building(s), indicating which departments will occupy what floors of it.  The intention is that a subsequent team will further the design of the new building(s).
