A team from EMI will return to Tenwek Hospital’s new Cardiothoracic Center to conduct hands-on training for the facility’s maintenance team. Our goal is to equip the team with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate and maintain the Center’s advanced mechanical and electrical systems safely and effectively. We’ll focus on safety protocols, system components, and practical maintenance practices, ensuring the team is well-prepared to manage the facility long-term. Additionally, we’ll provide training materials to support ongoing education for future staff, reinforcing the Center’s mission to deliver Christ-centered, high-quality healthcare.

Project Scope

The Tenwek Hospital Cardiothoracic Center (CTC) project is a vital initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in Kenya and East Africa. Established in 1937, Tenwek Hospital, a 400-bed capacity, Level 5 Teaching and Referral Mission Hospital located in Bomet County, Kenya, has a long-standing commitment to providing compassionate, Christ-centered healthcare services under the motto, "We Treat, Jesus Heals." The CTC, soon to be one of the largest cardiothoracic surgical centers in Kenya, represents a significant step forward in addressing the country's growing challenge of cardiovascular disease, which accounts for nearly 25% of all hospital admissions in Kenya.

EMI has been invited by Tenwek Hospital to assist in the testing, commissioning, and training related to the CTC's advanced mechanical and electrical systems. Our team will work closely with Tenwek's engineers of record, Samaritan’s Purse, and the local contractors to conduct thorough evaluations of the systems already tested, identify any gaps, and complete the necessary procedures to ensure the facility is ready for operation. In addition to technical testing, our team will develop and implement a comprehensive training plan for the CTC's new operations and maintenance staff, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to manage the facility's systems effectively and safely. By partnering with Tenwek Hospital, EMI is contributing to a project that will raise the standard of medical care in East Africa, making a profound impact on the region's healthcare landscape while upholding the message, "We treat, Jesus heals."
