EMI is privileged to partner with the 314 Community as they endeavor to see young adults in Uganda thrive in their faith, careers, and communities. The 314 Community desires to develop a housing complex for students attending Uganda Christian University. This campus aims to support students from humble backgrounds through discipleship, community engagement, furthering education, and career facilitation. EMI will come alongside the 314 Community in the master plan of this complex, including site programming, master plan development, concept-level building design, and site infrastructure concept design.
Project Scope
The 314 Community derives its namesake from 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” Based on this verse, the leadership and staff of the 314 Community hope to see secondary school graduates organize their lives around the teachings of Jesus. Recognizing the challenges that young adults in Uganda face as they move from sponsored boarding school education into life beyond high school, the 314 Community fills the gap in relational mentoring and transitional support as students begin university in large cities. One core element of filling this gap is having a campus where students can live in community with each other and have access to discipleship resources and other support services.
The 314 Community has acquired a piece of undeveloped land in Mukono, approximately 2.5ha (6.2ac) in size. EMI has partnered with the 314 Community to develop a master plan for a housing complex on this site, which will include residences for 150 students, study space, a student center, cafeteria, chapel, recreation facilities, and staff housing.
EMI will work with the 314 Community staff to develop the programming of spaces required for the site to then develop the site master plan, which will provide an overall understanding of the site elements (buildings, circulation, etc.). Conceptual building designs will be provided for one or two (1-2) building(s) identified for the first phase of construction. Additionally, concept designs will be developed for water, wastewater, drainage, and electrical infrastructure.
To accomplish this work, EMI is recruiting a team of volunteers to travel to Uganda at the beginning of April to work with the 314 Community, with the project deliverables to be completed in the following weeks.
Would you please pray for the opportunity to join us in designing this campus to serve these students as they continue to find their footing in the world?
