Join eMi as we head to New Guinea, the second largest island in the world. There in Papua, Indonesia we aim to assist Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and Papua Hope School (PHS) expand their successful existing Christian school campus located in Sentani to other regions of the remote island in Nabire and Wamena.

Project Scope

Papua Hope School (PHS) located in Sentani, Indonesia (colloquially known as the International School) was established to meet the needs for child education, which is the largest need in Papua and a huge ministry opportunity to develop Godly servant leaders for the future of Papua, Indonesia.

Papua Hope School originally started in 2008 and has seen the school become the best K-12 school in the Papua province and has graduated many Papuans who have went on to receive scholarships to study in the US.

Because of the reputation of the school, PHS has received many requests from local officials to put similar designed schools in different areas of Papua Island. Two campus regions have been identified, one in Nabire and the other in Wamena. PHS leadership believes that discipleship in education will change Papua as a province to be a Light to the world.

To meet the incoming demand, PHS has a vision to build a large school campus in Nabire and Wamena areas, thanks to the generous support of the government who has committed funds to help in the schools construction. The newly elected governor, Mr. John Tabo, has prioritized education to move his province forward and is fueling PHS efforts to expand.

However, these government funds have been timestamped and PHS leadership are urgently requesting support from EMI to help prepare and create a School Concept Master Plan in time to locate and size appropriate buildings that will phase construction of the future school campus.

The scope of the work will include school master planning for the 3 sites, in order of importance:

1) Nabire Site - Create Conceptual Master Plan of new K-12 School Campus on Greenfield Site

  • Architecture - conceptual building floor plans and master planning
  • Civil - water & wastewater infrastructure
  • Electrical - solar and power distribution
  • Structural - buildings and foundations
  • Survey - topographical survey and boundary line survey

2) Wamena Site - Create Conceptual Master Plan of K-8 School Campus

  • Architecture - conceptual building floor plans and master planning
  • Civil - water & wastewater infrastructure
  • Electrical - solar and power distribution
  • Structural - buildings and foundations
  • Survey - topographical survey and boundary line survey

3) Sentani PHS Site - Gym and Multi-use Facilities Expansion of existing PHS site

Assessment/Tour of Existing PHS Campus Infrastructure

  • Architecture - tour existing PHS campus and use as inspiration for Nabire/Wamena plans
  • Civil - tour existing water & wastewater infrastructure
  • Electrical - tour existing power distribution system
  • Structural - tour existing PHS buildings and foundations
  • Survey - create existing site survey and boundary line survey

PHS believes that with EMI’s help it can act now to be the main influence in education to offer Christ-like Character and integrity into the school curriculum. Developing and scaling up similar schools like the one in Sentani elsewhere in the province of Papua will be an amazing opportunity to impact the future of all Papua.
