EMI Nicaragua will be travelling to El Salvador to provide an assessment of existing potable water and wastewater infrastructure serving the Harvesting in Spanish campus and develop concept level recommendations to support current operations.

Project Scope

Harvesting in Spanish has worked in El Salvador for almost 50 years to reach people for Christ and to provide training, resources and opportunities to serve Him. They run a school, orphanage, medical clinic, and bookstore to serve their community. Recently, issues have arisen around their water, wastewater, retaining wall and foundation systems. 

EMI Nicaragua will provide an assessment of existing potable water and wastewater infrastructure serving the Harvesting in Spanish campus and develop concept level recommendations to support current operations as well as perform visual inspections and recommendations for retaining wall and foundation issues.

EMI's Scope of Design Services:
01.    Collaborate with Harvesting in Spanish leadership to determine current infrastructure status. 
02.    Review available background information, utility records, and prior studies.
03.    Perform a site walkthrough and visual assessment of potable water and wastewater systems.
04.    Confirm site infrastructure with existing topographical survey information.
05.    Evaluate system condition, apparent deficiencies, operational constraints, and capacity relative to current demand.
06.    Evaluate water supply sources and storage needs relative to current and future campus use.
07.    Conduct limited soil testing to establish preliminary soil classification and estimated wastewater absorption rates for planning purposes.
08.    Develop concept level potable water and wastewater improvement recommendations.
09.    Prepare planning level, quantity based cost estimates for budgeting purposes with input from local construction professionals.
10.    Identify infrastructure capacity thresholds and considerations for future campus expansion.
11.    Perform visual inspections of existing retaining walls and select building foundations (children’s houses) and develop conceptual remediation options supported by limited soil screening. 
12.    Engage with local designers and contractors to develop a shortlist of local professionals capable of taking the proposals through detailed design and construction.

EMI will provide the following deliverables:

01.    Schematic existing conditions drawings
02.    Infrastructure assessment memorandum
03.    Concept level improvement concepts
04.    Planning level cost estimates
