SIL started working in South Sudan in the 1970s, and since then, they have developed and translated materials in over 30 languages. These include Scripture, basic literary tools, health/community guides, worship materials, and more.
SIL has a property in the Hai Jebel neighborhood of Juba that they are hoping to develop as a multi-use campus with both office space and housing units available to rent. Not only will these facilities support the needs other mission organizations face in Juba, they will also help to provide more sustainable funding opportunities for SIL's operations.
Project Scope
EMI has partnered with SIL to help develop the Hai Jebel campus, starting with the masterplan and concept design and proceeding through detailed design. This process will begin with the team's project trip to Juba, South Sudan in late September to conduct a needs assessment of the site and to host programming conversations with the SIL leadership team.
In the couple of weeks following the trip, a concept drawing package will be developed and delivered to the client along with a concept note and renderings that will allow their team to begin fundraising for the construction of the site. EMI staff will then begin detailed design immediately, working with South Sudanese professionals to ensure regulations for permitting are met.
We are privileged to serve SIL in South Sudan and are excited to recruit a team of volunteers to help kickstart the master planning and design process for this campus. Our team does recognize that there are security risks in South Sudan, and we have taken steps to conduct a thorough risk assessment and will continue to mitigate risks throughout the planning and trip itself.
