Where can I stay during the event?

A variety of hotel options are located in the vicinity of the World Prayer Center. EMI does not have any preferred accommodations options.

Can I receive Continuing Education Credits?

CEUs are available for technical content only, which include the technical workshops on Friday as noted and the technical breakouts on Saturday (TBA).

EMI is an approved provider with the AIA. Engineers and architects should verify the requirements of their state licensure.

What is the dress code?

The dress code is business casual, but you will certainly see a range of outfits so don't worry too much about it. Some people come dressed more casually (it is Colorado after all) and others dress much more formally.

Will this event be livestreamed?

No, we will not be livestreaming this event. We hope that you can join us in person!

Where do I park?

WORLD PRAYER CENTER:

There is ample parking at the World Prayer Center and no restricted areas, so feel free to park anywhere!

EMI OFFICE:

Green is the EMI office lot where you may park. Yellow is the alternative overflow across the street (by the Ent kiosk). The blue arrow leads to the street parking around the corner, beyond the curve. The red X's are areas where parking is not allowed, so be careful to avoid those!

CSAP: This course trains civil/structural engineers, architects, and building inspectors to do field evaluations of buildings for safety. Completion of the course allows qualified professionals to receive certification by the state of California as a safety evaluator and qualifies for 6 continuing education units.

Confined Masonry – Design and Construction: Confined masonry walls are perhaps the most prevalent construction type in the world. It is essential that EMI design professionals engaged in both development and disaster response/relief understand the basics of this construction method so common in the developing world and yet often unfamiliar to western designers. As a follow-up to CSAP, attendees will gain the understanding necessary to apply good design principles for development, as well make rapid and appropriate assessments after disasters have caused damage.

Hands-on Lab: Electrical Equipment, System Testing and Measurement for EMI Field Work: Electrical design/build initiatives are one of the most critically expanding areas of EMI's projects. This course will equip the designer with the knowledge and resources to utilize electrical measurement equipment in electrical documentation, design, and troubleshooting.

Multidisciplinary Design Workshop | Experience an EMI project trip through this workshop, as though you were traveling with us overseas! You will join a design charette addressing a site masterplan and building design with your fellow attendees just like an EMI team does.

Architectural Design - Healthcare | Panel Discussion:  Healthcare is one of the most pressing needs confronting mission efforts today.  Hear expert healthcare professionals, design consultants, and experienced EMI staff discuss the challenges and opportunities we encounter all over the world as we address healthcare needs and the projects we are doing in the developing world.

A Theology to Reach the World | Part One - The 3-D Gospel; and Risk and Suffering These workshops are taken from EMI's orientation sessions.  First, join us as we uncover the “3D Gospel,” the different cultural orientations around the world that influence worldview, and how we can share the Gospel through three different lenses.  Then, hear how EMI helps us navigate our response to risk and suffering as we follow God into all the world.

A Theology to Reach the World | Part Two - Good Mission - What is it? and how does EMI respond?  This workshop has become a fundamental conversation within EMI by considering the methods and results of applied mission effort over the long history of the modern missions movement, EMI's history of involvement in missions effort around the globe over the last 40+ years, and EMI's own growth and evolution in process, methodology, and priorities as we respond to the changing environment of global missions.  

Opening Plenary Session - Friday evening
Fifty-six million people in Africa are in need of surgical care. 93% of sub-Saharan Africa does not have access to safe surgical, anesthesia, and obstetric (SAO) care that is timely and affordable. In many places of Africa, there is only one surgeon for a population of 250,000. In other areas, it is even worse. There may be only one surgeon for a population of 2.5 million people. PAACS (the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons) is raising up African physicians to meet the deep surgical and spiritual needs of Africa by training and discipling them to be excellent Christian surgeons who will also share the love and Gospel of Jesus with their patients. Hear their testimony of a long and fruitful partnership with EMI from client representative and Executive VP Keir Thelander of PAACS, hosted by EMI staff member Henry Watts, with a look at the long-term master planning, design, and construction at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon. 

Plenary Session 2 - Saturday morning
The rising generation in Congo sees a new path forward but faces a gap in access to the education and community needed to ignite change and transform lives. The Congo Initiative was founded in 2005 as a global collective inspired by Christ-centered faith and united for transformation of lives and communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and established the UCBC (The Universite Chretienne Bilingue du Congo) in 2007.  Since then, UCBC has educated and equipped hundreds of changemakers who model transformation by holistically renewing communities and promoting systemic justice in DRC.  The testimony of EMI's partnership with client representatives David Kasali (Co-Founder and President Emeritus) and Justin Hubbard (Executive Director), hosted by EMI staff members Matt Lammers and Jeff Austin, will inspire you as hear the challenges and success stories of the construction of school facilities at UCBC. 

Plenary Session 3 - Saturday afternoon
The ministry of Rancho Genesis is designed as part of a wider community of Christ-followers helping orphans through the emotional healing process from their abuse or abandonment.  Through camp outreach and ministry in a beautiful rural setting, surrounded by God's great and vast creation, they are helping the ninos make some great new childhood memories, replacing the unspeakable ones.  You will be inspired as you hear of the fruit of EMI's partnership with client representative and Executive Director Gaby Velazquez, hosted by EMI staff member Sarah Tadros and lead architect volunteer Randy Seitz, with a focus on the master planning and design of the Rancho Genesis Camp in Baja California, Mexico.
